FIRIES CLAIM VICTORY AT THE 6 WAY CHALLENGE

After a great 3 days of bowls at Soldiers Point Bowling Club our NSW Fire Brigades team emerged undefeated to take the 6 Way out by a clear margin. Congratulations to all involved with the victory being sealed on the final day over the ADF side.

Day 1 Morning – All 3 rinks won their games over the Master Builders with the big board showing a final margin of 64-49. A great start to the challenge.

Day 1 Afternoon – This was a huge win against the NSW Choo Choos by a massive margin of 50 shots, winning 90-40. After 2 games NSW Police, the ADF and ourselves were all on 6 points, we being in front by a slender margin.

Day 2 Morning – A great tussle against the NSW Police side who were looking for redemption after losing the Guns v Hoses Challenge in February. With the Cops bolting to an early lead we slowly reeled them in , eventually winning 66-52 albeit after losing 1 rink. Still in 1st place with the undefeated ADF close behind.

Day 2 Afternoon – After 3 games on the slowish grass we popped over onto the synthetic which was running very quick in comparison. However that didn’t slow our progress as we had a resounding win over the QLD police 84-38. Next door to us the NSW Police did us a favour and knocked over the ADF to leave us in prime position for the last day – only the old North Sydney Bears could lose it from here!

Day 3 Morning – Knowing that it was only ourselves that could lose it we were on the undercover carpet versus the ADF, the reigning title holders. Soldiers Point Bowling Club live streamed one game on their Youtube channel for those interested to watch it. Every game was a tussle back and forth, but with Kachel’s band of Port Stephens finest leading the way on the TV rink, we finally prevailed 51-47 with 2 rink wins to claim the trophy undefeated with 5 wins and only losing 2 rinks. Well done to all.
